The recent loss of a young student in Makoko, Mathew in December 2023 due to preventable illnesses, deeply impacted the Chess in Slums, Africa community. This loss highlighted the crucial need for access to healthcare and preventative measures in the underprivileged community. Determined to make a difference, Chess in Slums, Africa partnered with Health Insured Nigeria to organise a free healthcare outreach program on Saturday, February 24th, 2024. Held at Whayinna School, Makoko, Lagos, the program served 400 families, providing them with free Health Screenings, Health Insurance Enrollment and First Aid Training. While the quantifiable data tells a story of 400 families directly impacted, the true success lies in the intangible. The outreach saw a community united in seeking a brighter, healthier future. The radiant smiles on the faces of children and their parents reflected not just gratitude for the immediate intervention, but also the hope for a future free from preventable illnesses.   Chess in Slums, Africa remains committed to ensuring the well-being of young people. The organization plans to continue collaborating with partners and expanding its outreach, aiming to provide every child in the community with the security and protection of health insurance.
